INFORMATION TO BUY A PROPERTY IN PORTUGAL
The process of buying a property in Portugal is quite simple, regarding the bureaucracy and the process itself.
In terms of documentation you will need a Portuguese tax number and your Identification either through a national citizen card for EEU Citizens or a valid Passport to UK or non EEU Citizens.
The first step will be the realization and signing of a promissory contract, with the identification of the property and its location, the identification of sellers and buyers. At the time of the signature of this contract a signal will be payed to the sellers as agreed between both parties.
This contract will stipulate the date of the deed. Usually the deed is done up to 90 business days after the signature of the promissory contract.
To perform the deed in addition to the identification documents and tax number, it will also be necessary to present proof of payment of the IMT (Municipal Property Transfer Tax) and stamp duty, prior to the deed.
Payment of the remaining amount must be made by bank check or certified check.
Both the buyer and seller may be legally represented by a lawyer or solicitor not only in the deed but also in the execution and signing of the promissory contract.
